     Rt. Hon. Sir Cuthbert Morley Headlam, 1st Bt. was born on 27 April 1876.1 He was the son of Francis John Headlam and Matilda Ann Pincoffs.1 He married Georgina Beatrice Crawley, daughter of George Baden Crawley, on 22 March 1904.1 He died on 27 February 1964 at age 87.2
     He was educated at King's School, Canterbury, Kent, England.1 He was educated at Magdalen College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.1 He was Clerk iin the House of Lords between 1897 and 1924.1 He was admitted to Inner Temple in 1906 entitled to practise as a barrister-at-law.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for County Durham.1 He fought in the First World War between 1914 and 1919.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the General Staff.1 He was awarded the Territorial Decoration (T.D.)1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) on 1 January 1918.1 He wrote the book The History of the Guards' Division in the Great War.1 He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) on 3 June 1919.1 He was editor of the Army Quarterly between 1920 and 1942.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Durham, Barnard Castle Division between 1924 and 1929.1 He was Parliamentary and Finance Secretary to the Admiralty between 1926 and 1929.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Durham, Barnard Castle Division between 1931 and 1935.1 He was created 1st Baronet Headlam, of Holywell, in the County Palatine of Durham [U.K.] on 5 July 1935.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Newcastle-upon-Tyne, North Division between 1940 and 1951.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of County Durham.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) on 24 August 1945.1
