     He fought in the First World War, including the Battle of the Falklands, and Gallipoli.¹ He fought in the Captain, Royal Navy.¹ He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1919.¹ He was naval advisor to the New Zealand Government between 1919 and 1921.¹
