     Admiral of the Fleet Sir Thomas Byam Martin was born on 25 July 1773.1 He was the son of Sir Henry Martin, 1st Bt. and Elizabeth Ann Parker.1 He married Catherine Fanshawe, daughter of Captain Robert Fanshawe and Christiana Gennys.1 He died on 21 October 1854 at age 81 at Portsmouth, Hampshire, England.1
     He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) on 2 January 1815.1 He held the office of Comptroller of the Navy between 1816 and 1831.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Plymouth between 1818 and 1831.1 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.) on 3 March 1830.1 He gained the rank of Admiral of the Fleet on 13 October 1849.1
