     Anne Hay-Mackenzie, Countess of Cromartie was born on 21 April 1829.1 She was the daughter of John Hay-Mackenzie and Anne Gibson-Craig.1 She married George Granville William Sutherland-Leveson-Gower, 3rd Duke of Sutherland, son of George Granville Sutherland-Leveson-Gower, 2nd Duke of Sutherland and Lady Harriet Elizabeth Georgiana Howard, on 27 June 1849 at Cliefden House, Taplow, Buckinghamshire, EnglandG.1,2 She died on 25 November 1888 at age 59 at Stafford House, St. James's, London, EnglandG.3,4 She was buried at Babbacombe Cemetery, Babbacombe, Devon, EnglandG.3
     From 27 June 1849, her married name became Sutherland-Leveson-Gower.1,2 After her marriage, Anne Hay-Mackenzie, Countess of Cromartie was styled as Duchess of Sutherland on 22 February 1861. She was created 1st Baroness Macleod of Castle Leod, co. Cromartie [U.K.] on 21 October 1861, with special remainder to her 2nd son Francis and his heirs.1 She was created 1st Countess of Cromartie [U.K.] on 21 October 1861, with special remainder to her 2nd son Francis and his heirs.1 She was created 1st Viscountess Tarbat, of Tarbat, co. Cromartie [U.K.] on 21 October 1861, with special remainder to her 2nd son Francis and his heirs.1 She was created 1st Baroness Castlehaven, of Castlehaven, co. Cromartie [U.K.] on 21 October 1861, with special remainder to her 2nd son Francis and his heirs.1 She held the office of Mistress of the Robes between 1870 and 1874.3 She was appointed Lady, Royal Order of Victoria and Albert (V.A.) 3rd Class.3

     George Granville Sutherland-Leveson-Gower, Earl Gower was born on 27 July 1850.1 He was the son of George Granville William Sutherland-Leveson-Gower, 3rd Duke of Sutherland and Anne Hay-Mackenzie, Countess of Cromartie.1 He died on 5 July 1858 at age 7.1
     He was styled as Earl Gower.

     Lady Millicent Fanny St. Clair-Erskine was born on 20 October 1867.1 She was the daughter of Robert Francis St. Clair-Erskine, 4th Earl of Rosslyn and Blanche Adeliza Fitzroy.1 She married, firstly, Cromartie Sutherland-Leveson-Gower, 4th Duke of Sutherland, son of George Granville William Sutherland-Leveson-Gower, 3rd Duke of Sutherland and Anne Hay-Mackenzie, Countess of Cromartie, on 20 October 1884.1 She married, secondly, Brig.-Gen. Percy Desmond FitzGerald, son of Nicholas FitzGerald and Marianne O'Shanassy, on 17 October 1914.3 She married, thirdly, Lt.-Col. George Ernest Hawes, son of Georgte Hawes, on 27 October 1919.1 She and Lt.-Col. George Ernest Hawes were divorced in 1925.1 She died on 20 August 1955 at age 87.1
     From 20 October 1884, her married name became Leveson-Gower. She was awarded the Croix de Guerre.1 After her marriage, Lady Millicent Fanny St. Clair-Erskine was styled as Duchess of Sutherland on 22 September 1892. From 17 October 1914, her married name became FitzGerald. Her marriage to Brig.-Gen. Percy Desmond FitzGerald was annulled in 1919.3 From 27 October 1919, her married name became Hawes.

     Lord Alastair St. Clair Sutherland-Leveson-Gower was born on 24 January 1890.1 He was the son of Cromartie Sutherland-Leveson-Gower, 4th Duke of Sutherland and Lady Millicent Fanny St. Clair-Erskine.1 He married Elizabeth Hélène Gardner Demarest, daughter of Warren Gardner Demarest and Elizabeth Charlotte Applegate, on 27 April 1918.2 He died on 28 April 1921 at age 31 at ZimbabweG.1
     He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the Lovat Scouts Yeomanry.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in dispatches and was wounded.1 He gained the rank of Major in the Royal Horse Guards.1 He gained the rank of Major in the Guards MGR.1 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.)1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Sutherland.1

     Elizabeth Hélène Gardner Demarest was born on 10 April 1892 at New York City, New York, U.S.A.G.2 She was the daughter of Warren Gardner Demarest and Elizabeth Charlotte Applegate.1,2 She married, firstly, John George Alexander Leishman, Jr., son of John George Alexander Leishman and Julia Crawford, on 18 September 1911 at The Episcopal Church, Cadenabbia, Lake Como, ItalyG.2 She and John George Alexander Leishman, Jr. were divorced in 1917.2 She married, secondly, Lord Alastair St. Clair Sutherland-Leveson-Gower, son of Cromartie Sutherland-Leveson-Gower, 4th Duke of Sutherland and Lady Millicent Fanny St. Clair-Erskine, on 27 April 1918.1 She married, thirdly, Baron George Osten Driesen on 14 June 1931.1 She died on 26 September 1931 at age 39.1
     From 18 September 1911, her married name became Leishman.2 From 27 April 1918, her married name became Sutherland-Leveson-Gower. From 14 June 1931, her married name became Driesen.

     Elizabeth Millicent Sutherland-Leveson-Gower, 24th Countess of Sutherland was born on 30 March 1921.1 She was the daughter of Lord Alastair St. Clair Sutherland-Leveson-Gower and Elizabeth Hélène Gardner Demarest.2 She married Charles Noel Janson, son of Charles Wilfred Janson and Nora Cook, on 5 January 1946.1 She died on 9 December 2019 at age 98.3
     She gained the title of Baroness of Strathnaver. She was chairman of Dunrobin Castle Ltd.1 Her married name became Janson. In 1963 her name was legally changed to Elizabeth Millicent Sutherland.1 She succeeded as the 24th Countess of Sutherland [S., 1235] on 1 February 1963.1

     Charles Noel Janson was born on 25 December 1917.2 He was the son of Charles Wilfred Janson and Nora Cook.2 He married Elizabeth Millicent Sutherland-Leveson-Gower, 24th Countess of Sutherland, daughter of Lord Alastair St. Clair Sutherland-Leveson-Gower and Elizabeth Hélène Gardner Demarest, on 5 January 1946.1 He died on 15 June 2006 at age 88.3
     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.2 He graduated from Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)2 He gained the rank of Temporary Captain in the Welsh Guards.1 He was Paris correspondence for The Economist between 1949 and 1953.2 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Sutherland between 1959 and 1993.1 He was founder of Africa Confidential in 1960.2 He was founder of Soviet Analyst in 1972.2
