     William Holmes was born circa 1777.2 He was the son of Thomas Holmes and Anne Phibbs.2 He married Helen Tew, daughter of Alderman John Tew, on 24 October 1807.1 He died on 26 January 1851.2
     He was Treasurer of the Ordnance.1 He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Grampound between 1808 and 1812.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Tregony between 1812 and 1818.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Totnes between 1818 and 1820.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Bishop's Castle between 1820 and 1830.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Haslemere between 1830 and 1832.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Berwicj-Upon-Tweed between 1837 and 1841.2
