Sir James FitzGerald Ross Mahon, 3rd Bt. was born on 3 June 1812.1 He was the son of Sir Ross Mahon, 1st Bt. and Hon. Mary Geraldine FitzGerald.1 He died on 11 March 1852 at age 39, unmarried.1
He was admitted to King's Inns in 1831 entitled to practise as a barrister.1 He graduated from Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He succeeded as the 3rd Baronet Mahon, of Castlegar, co. Galway [U.K., 1819] on 5 April 1842.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of County Galway.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for County Galway.1

He was Aide-de-Camp to Earl de Grey, Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the King's Royal Rifle Corps (60th Rifles.)1 He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Mahon, of Castlegar, co. Galway [U.K., 1819] on 10 August 1835.1
