William Edward Rootes, 1st Baron Rootes was born on 17 August 1894.1 He was the son of William Rootes and Jennie Catt.2 He married, firstly, Nora Press, daughter of Horace Press, on 15 March 1916.1 He and Nora Press were divorced in 1951.1 He married, secondly, Ruby Joy Ann Duff, daughter of Captain Gordon Duff, in 1951.2 He died on 12 December 1964 at age 70.1
