Colonel Alexander Kyle was born on 6 January 1791 at Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.2 He married Helen Grant Macdonell, daughter of Æneas Macdonell and Anna Fraser, on 20 September 1826 at Banffshire, Scotland.1 He died on 18 July 1865 at age 74 at Binghill Peterculter, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.2

John Macdonell, 12th of Glengarry was the son of Alastair Macdonell, 11th of Glengarry and Lady Mary Mackenzie.2 He married, firstly, Margaret Mackenzie, daughter of Colin Mackenzie.2 He married, secondly, Helen Gordon, daughter of John Gordon of Glenbucket, in 1728.2 He died on 1 September 1754.2 He was buried at Holyrood Abbey, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.2
He succeeded as the 2nd Lord Macdonell [Scotland, 1716] on 28 October 1721, Jacobite.2 In 1745 he was committed to the Tower after the 1745 Uprising, in which many of the Macdonells of Glengarry joined Bonnie Price Charlie.2 In 1746 'Master of Macdonell,' according to FM Wade's Report , Glengarry could put 500 clansmen in the field.2
