     Robert Clive, 1st Baron Clive of Plassey was born on 29 September 1725 at Styche, Shropshire, England^G.¹ He was the son of Richard Clive and Rebecca Gaskell.¹ He was baptised on 2 October 1725 at Moreton-Say, Shropshire, England^G.¹ He married Margaret Maskelyne, daughter of Edmund Maskelyne and Elizabeth Booth, on 15 March 1753 at Madras, India^G.³ He died on 22 November 1774 at age 49 at Berkeley Square, London, England^G, by his own hand, although a more recent biograhpy suggests he was murdered by his wife.^3,4 He was buried on 30 November 1774 at Moreton-Say, Shropshire, England^G.^3,5 His will was proven (by probate) in December 1774.³
     Robert Clive, 1st Baron Clive of Plassey also went by the nick-name of Clive of India.⁴ He was educated at Lostock, Cheshire, England^G.¹ He was educated at Market Drayton, Shropshire, England^G.¹ He was educated circa 1737 at Merchant Taylors' School, London, England^G.¹ He was educated at Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, England^G.¹ He was a writer in the Honourable East India Company Service in 1743.¹ He was commissioned in 1747 with the rank of Ensign.¹ He fought in the Siege of Pondicherry.¹ He gained the rank of Lieutenant.¹ He fought in the capture of Devikota, with the forlorn hope.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for St. Michaels from 1754 to 1755.¹ He held the office of Lieutenant Governor of Fort St. David in 1756.¹ He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1756.¹ He fought in the Battle of Plassey on 23 June 1757, where he commanded 3,200 men who routed 50,000 foot and 18,000 horse and killed Surajah Dowlah.¹ He held the office of Governor of the Honourable East India Company's possessions between 1758 and 1760.¹ He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Civil Laws (D.C.L.) by Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England^G, on 2 September 1760.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Shrewsbury between 1761 and 1774.¹ He was created 1st Baron Clive of Plassey, co. Clare [Ireland] on 15 March 1762.¹ He gained the rank of Major-General in 1764.¹ He held the office of Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Bengal between 1764 and 1767.¹ He was appointed Knight, Order of the Bath (K.B.) on 24 April 1764.¹ He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.) on 24 November 1768.³ He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Montgomeryshire between 1772 and 1774.³ He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Shropshire between 1772 and 1774.³

     Margaret Maskelyne was born on 26 October 1735.³ She was the daughter of Edmund Maskelyne and Elizabeth Booth.¹ She married Robert Clive, 1st Baron Clive of Plassey, son of Richard Clive and Rebecca Gaskell, on 15 March 1753 at Madras, India^G.¹ She died on 28 December 1817 at age 82 at Oakley Park, Shropshire, England^G.¹ She died intestate and her estate was administered in June 1818.¹
     From 15 March 1753, her married name became Clive. After her marriage, Margaret Maskelyne was styled as Baroness Clive of Plassey on 15 March 1762.

     Edmund Maskelyne was the son of Nevill Maskelyne. He married Elizabeth Booth, daughter of John Booth and Elizabeth Proger, on 4 February 1724.² He died in 1744.²
     He was Counsel to the Secretary of State's Office.² He was a practising barrister-at-law.² He lived at Purton Down, Wiltshire, England^G.²

     Lt.-Col. Hon. Robert Clive was born on 30 August 1759.¹ He was the son of Robert Clive, 1st Baron Clive of Plassey and Margaret Maskelyne.¹ He died on 28 July 1833 at age 73.
     He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel.¹

     Hon. Rebecca Clive was born in 1760.² She was the daughter of Robert Clive, 1st Baron Clive of Plassey and Margaret Maskelyne.¹ She married Lt.-Gen. John Robinson on 14 March 1780.¹ She died in December 1795.¹
     Her married name became Robinson.

     Lt.-Gen. John Robinson married Hon. Rebecca Clive, daughter of Robert Clive, 1st Baron Clive of Plassey and Margaret Maskelyne, on 14 March 1780.¹ He died in December 1798, killed in the Irish Uprising.¹

     Hon. Charlotte Clive was born in 1762.² She was the daughter of Robert Clive, 1st Baron Clive of Plassey and Margaret Maskelyne.³ She died on 22 October 1795 at Oakley Park, England.¹ She was buried on 29 October 1795 at Moreton-Say, Shropshire, England.¹

     Hon. Margaret Clive was born on 15 August 1763.¹ She was the daughter of Robert Clive, 1st Baron Clive of Plassey and Margaret Maskelyne.² She married Lt.-Col. Lambert Theodore Walpole, son of Hon. Thomas Walpole and Elizabeth Vanneck, on 11 January 1788.³ She died in June 1814 at age 50.³
     Her married name became Walpole.

     Lt.-Col. Lambert Theodore Walpole was born on 28 December 1757.¹ He was the son of Hon. Thomas Walpole and Elizabeth Vanneck.¹ He married Hon. Margaret Clive, daughter of Robert Clive, 1st Baron Clive of Plassey and Margaret Maskelyne, on 11 January 1788.¹ He died in December 1798 at Ireland^G, killed by rebels.
