Admiral James O'Brien, 3rd Marquess of Thomond was born circa 1768.1 He was the son of Edward O'Brien and Mary Carrick.2 He married, firstly, Eliza Bridgeman Willyams, daughter of James Willyams and Anne Champion, on 25 November 1800 at Truro, Cornwall, EnglandG.1 He married, secondly, Jane Ottley, daughter of Thomas Ottley and Grace Johnson Byam, in 1806 at Clarke's Hill, AntiguaG.1 He married, thirdly, Anne Flint, daughter of William Flint and Anne Mill, on 5 January 1847.3 He died on 3 July 1855, without issue.1 He was buried on 10 July 1855 at St. Saviour's, Walcot, EnglandG.
He was commissioned in 1783, in the service of the Royal Navy.1 He gained the rank of Midshipman between 1786 and 1789.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1790.1 He gained the rank of Commander in 1796.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1799.1 He gained the rank of Rear-Admiral in 1825.1 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Hanoverian Order (G.C.H.) in 1831.1 He gained the rank of Vice-Admiral in 1837.1 He succeeded as the 7th Baron O'Brien of Burren, co.
