     Admiral John Maitland was born in 1771.1 He was the son of Colonel Hon. Richard Maitland and Mary McAdam.1 He married, firstly, Elizabeth Ogilvie, daughter of Alexander Ogilvie of Inchmartine, on 22 April 1799.1 He married, secondly, Dorothea Bateman, daughter of Colthurst Bateman, on 8 January 1820.1 He died on 20 October 1836, without issue.1

     Dorothea Bateman is the daughter of Colthurst Bateman.1 She married, firstly, George Augustus Simson before 1820.1 She married, secondly, Admiral John Maitland, son of Colonel Hon. Richard Maitland and Mary McAdam, on 8 January 1820.1
     From before 1820, her married name became Simson.1 From 8 January 1820, her married name became Maitland.1

     He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 75th Regiment.1 He fought in the Siege of Bhurtpore.1
