John Walcott was born in 1700.1 He was the son of Edward Minchin and Anne (?)2 He married Eleanor Fitzgerald, daughter of William Fitzgerald and Catherine Walcot, in 1729.1 He died on 2 October 1753.1
He was given the name of John Minchin at birth.1 He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, IrelandG.1 He was admitted to Irish Bar in 1726.1 On 7 March 1736 his name was legally changed to John Walcott on succeeding to the Croagh estate on the death of his kinsman John Walcott.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Askeaton in 1751.1 He lived at Croagh, County Limerick, IrelandG.1 He had six sons and two daughters.1
