Lord Douglas Halyburton was born on 10 October 1777 at St. Marylebone, London, EnglandG.1,2 He was the son of Charles Gordon, 4th Earl of Aboyne and Lady Mary Douglas.1,2 He married Louisa Leslie, daughter of Sir Edward Leslie, 1st and last Bt., on 16 July 1807 at Dublin, County Dublin, IrelandG.1,2 He died on 25 December 1841 at age 64.1
He was given the name of Douglas Gordon at birth.1 In 1784 his name was legally changed to Douglas Halyburton on inheriting the Forfarshire estate of his cousin, Hamilton Douglas Halyburton of Pitcur.1 He gained the rank of Assistant Quartermaster-General on 9 June 1803.2 He gained the rank of officer in the 22nd Foot and Grenadier Guards.3 On 24 June 1836 he was granted the rank of a marquess's younger son.1
