Maj.-Gen. James Scott-Elliot was born on 6 November 1902.2 He was the son of Lt.-Col. W. Scott-Elliot.2 He married, firstly, Cecil Margaret du Buisson in 1932.2 He and Cecil Margaret du Buisson were divorced in 1969.2 He married, secondly, Faith Dorothy Caldwell Cook, daughter of Arthur Caldwell Cook, in 1971.2 He died on 12 September 1996 at age 93.2
He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.)1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.)1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.)1 He was educated at Wellington College, Crowthorne, Berkshire, England.2 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.2 He fought in the Second World War.2 He was commander of the 167th (London) Brigade.2 He was commander of the 51st Highland Division between 1952 and 1956.2 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Dumfries-shire between 1962 and 1967.2 He wrote the book Dowsing One Man's Way, published 1967.2
