David Macdowall was born on 20 July 1761.2 He was the son of William Macdowall, 18th of Garthland and 2nd of Castlesemple and Elizabeth 'Black Bess' Graham.3,1 He married Eleanor Mary Grant, daughter of Colonel Alexander Grant, 4th of Arndilly and Eleanor Frances Murray, in 1790.2 He died in 1841.2

Lady Elizabeth Hay was the daughter of William Hay, 4th Earl of Erroll and Christian Lyon.1 She married William Abernethy, 5th Lord Saltoun of Abernethy, son of Alexander Abernethy, 4th Lord Saltoun of Abernethy and unknown daughter Stewart, on 23 July 1512.2 She died in October 1574.2
