Richard Hennessy was born in 1876.2 He was the son of Richard Hennessy and Martha Lucy Hennessy.1 He married Ethel Frederica Selmes, daughter of Charles Selmes, on 29 July 1902.2 He died on 28 August 1953.2
He was educated at Wellington College, Crowthorne, Berkshire, England.2 He gained the rank of officer in 1897 in the 3rd Battalion, Gordon Highlanders.2 He fought in the Boer War between 1899 and 1902, where he was wounded.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the 8th Battalion, Gordon Highlanders.1
