He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.2 He fought in the Second World War, serving in Egypt, Italy and the Far East, and was wounded in 1942.2 He was commissioned in 1940, in the service of the Scots Guards.2 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.) in 1942.1,2 He gained the rank of Major in the Scots Guards.1 He was appointed Member, Order of the British Empire (M.B.E.)1 He was a stockbroker at London, EnglandG.2 He held the office of High Sheriff of Kent between 1978 and 1979.2
