     Pierce Butler is the son of Sarah Butler.2 He married Frances Anne Kemble, daughter of Charles Kemble, on 7 June 1834.1
     He inherited a vast number of South Carolina slaves from his grandfather, but eventually had to sell them to pay creditors.2 His name was legally changed to Pierce Butler.2 He was given the name of Pierce Mease at birth.2
     He had one other daughter.1
