Maj.-Gen. William Edward Delves Broughton was born on 3 January 1837.1 He was the son of General William Edward Delves Broughton and Anne Nugent.1 He married Laura Margaret Lawson, daughter of Stephen Lawson, on 28 April 1870.1 He died on 15 March 1895 at age 58.1,2

He fought in the Boer War between 1900 and 1902.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in dipatches.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Royal Artillery.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1919.1
