Major Hugh Henry Christian was born on 2 July 1831 at Bilton Hall, Yorkshire, EnglandG.1 He was the son of Hugh George Christian and Anne Fisher.1 He married, firstly, Annie Newton, daughter of Dr. Isaac Newton, in 1855.2 He married, secondly, Janet Elizabeth Peebles, daughter of Charles Peebles, in March 1866.2 He died on 2 August 1914 at age 83 at Bilton Lodge, Portobello, Northumberland, EnglandG.1 He was buried on 6 August 1914 at Knaresborough, Yorkshire, EnglandG.1
He was commissioned in 1849, in the service of the Honourable East India Military Service.2 He gained the rank of officer in the 68th Bengal Native Infantry.2 He fought in the Burma War between 1852 and 1854.2 He fought in the Indian Mutiny in 1857.2 He was 2nd in Command of the Punjab Regiment.2 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.)1 He gained the rank of Adjutant in the 1st Lanarkshire Volunteer Rifles.2
