Sir Frederick Joseph Bramwell, 1st and last Bt. was born on 7 March 1818.1 He was the son of George Bramwell.1 He married Harriet Leonora Frith on 29 March 1847.1 He died on 30 November 1903 at age 85.1
He was apprenticed to John Hague, London engineer in 1834.1 In 1843 he constructed a locomotive for the Stockton and Darlington Railway.1 He was began his own mechanical engineering firm in 1853.1 He was registered as a Member, Institution of Mechancial Engineers (M.I.Mech.E.) in 1854.1 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.) in 1873.1 He was appointed Knight Bachelor in 1881.1 He was created 1st Baronet Bramwell [U.K.] on 25 January 1889.1
