Robert James was born on 13 May 1873.2 He was the son of Walter Henry James, 2nd Baron Northbourne of Betteshanger and Edith Emeline Mary Lane.2,1 He married, firstly, Lady Evelyn Kathleen Wellesley, daughter of Colonel Arthur Charles Wellesley, 4th Duke of Wellington and Kathleen Emily Bulkeley Williams, on 18 June 1900.1 He married, secondly, Lady Serena Mary Barbara Lumley, daughter of Alfred Frederick George Beresford Lumley, 10th Earl of Scarbrough and Lucy Cecilia Dunn Gardner, on 23 July 1923.2 He died on 13 December 1960 at age 87.2

Walter Henry James, 2nd Baron Northbourne of Betteshanger was born on 25 March 1846.2 He was the son of Walter Charles James, 1st Baron Northbourne of Betteshanger and Sarah Caroline Ellison.3 He married Edith Emeline Mary Lane, daughter of John Newton Lane and Hon. Agnes Bagot, on 25 August 1868.2 He died on 27 January 1923 at age 76.2
