     Richard Bowles Farquhar was born on 12 January 1859.1 He was the son of Admiral Sir Arthur Farquhar of Drumnagesk and Ellen Rickman.1 He married Mary Reade, daughter of Richard Reade, in 1882.2 He died on 27 August 1948 at age 89 at Aboyne, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.1
     He was educated at Graham's Collegiate School, Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland.2 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1917.2

     He gained the rank of Captain in the Thornycroft's Mounted Infantry.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Territorial Forces Reserve.2 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.)2

     He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Sandwich.1
