     Ivor John Caradoc Herbert, 1st and last Baron Treowen was born on 15 July 1851 at Llanarth Court, Monmouthshire, WalesG.1 He was the son of John Arthur Edward Herbert and Hon. Augusta Charlotte Elizabeth Hall.1,2 He married Hon. Albertina Agnes Mary Denison, daughter of Albert Denison Denison, 1st Baron Londesborough and Lady Henrietta Maria Weld Forester, on 31 July 1873.1 He died on 18 October 1933 at age 82.1
     He was educated at St. Mary's College, Oscott, Handsworth, Warwickshire, EnglandG.1 He was commissioned in 1870 with the rank of officer, in the service of the Grenadier Guards.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1874.1 He fought in the Egyptian Campaign in 1882.1 He gained the rank of Brevet Major in 1882.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1883.1 He fought in the Nile Expedition between 1884 and 1885.1 He was Military Attache to St. Petersburg between 1886 and 1890.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1890.1 He was Major-General|Canadian Land Forces between 1890 and 1895.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1895.1 He gained the rank of Colonel in 1898.1 He fought in the Boer War between 1899 and 1901.1 He was created 1st Baronet Herbert [U.K.] on 19 July 1907.1 He was created 1st Baron Treowen, of Treowen and Llanarth, co. Monmouth [U.K.] on 20 June 1917.1
