Nicholas Addison Phillips, Baron Phillips of Worth Matravers was born on 21 January 1938.1 He married Christylle Marie-Thérèse Rouffiac Doreau in 1972.1
He was educated at Bryanston School, Blandford, Dorset, EnglandG.1 He was Commander of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve between 1956 and 1958.1 He graduated from King's College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He was admitted to the Middle Temple in 1962 entitled to practise as a barrister.1 He was on the Junior Counsel to the Ministry of Defence and Treasury in Admiralty matters between 1973 and 1978.1 He was governor at Bryanston School, Blandford, Dorset, EnglandG.1 He was appointed Queen's Counsellor (Q.C.) in 1978.1 He held the office of Recorder between 1982 and 1987.1 He held the office of Bencher in 1984.1 He held the office of Judge of the High Court of Justice, Queen's Bench Division between 1987 and 1995.1 He was chairman of the British Council Law Advisory Committee between 1991 and 1997.1 He was chairman of the Council of Legal Education between 1992 and 1997.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1995.1 He held the office of Lord Justice of Appeal between 1995 and 1998.1 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Law (LL.D.) by Exeter University, Exeter, Devon, EnglandG, in 1998.1 He held the office of Lord of Appeal in Ordinary between 1999 and 2000.1 He was created Baron Phillips of Worth Matravers, of Belsize Park, London Borough of Camden [U.K. Law Lord] on 12 January 1999.1 He held the office of Master of the Rolls.1
